About Us

The firm’s mission is to provide high-quality, ethical, cost-effective legal services and, thereby, to create value for its clients.

The firm focuses its practice on business transactions and contracts and business litigation, including appellate work.

Shea Law was originally founded in 1975. Prior to starting the firm, I worked as a litigator for a large, international law firm (Squire, Sanders & Dempsey L.L.P.), where my practice focused on complex business disputes. For example, I worked on complex litigation matters arising under the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974 (ERISA), Chapter 11 of the United States Bankruptcy Code, and the Uniform Commercial Code. In the mid-1990’s, I served for two and a half years as a judicial law clerk in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Ohio, where I drafted opinions and orders for review by the Court, primarily in Social Security Disability/Supplemental Security Income cases and habeas corpus cases. I have also worked in state government as a litigator and transactional lawyer, in legal aid, and, immediately following law school, at Squire Sanders, doing mergers and acquisitions and real estate work. Prior to law school, I worked for the in-house legal department of a U.S. subsidiary of a large, multinational corporation, assisting with contract drafting and various other legal services.

In short, I have experience resolving legal issues in a variety of contexts and from a variety of perspectives. I started this firm in order to apply the best of what I have learned to serve the firm’s clients, regardless of size, efficiently and cost-effectively.

In 2005, I was named an Ohio Super Lawyer “Rising Star.” The purpose of the award was to recognize the top 2.5 percent of Ohio lawyers who were age 40 or under or who had been in practice 10 years or less.

I am a member of the Ohio bar and am also admitted to practice before the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, the United States District Court for the Southern District of Ohio, and the United States District Court for the Northern District of Ohio.

I am a 1993 graduate of the University of Virginia School of Law and a 1987 graduate of Kenyon College (summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa). My undergraduate work included one year at Trinity College Dublin.
